Along with concerts and worship events, Jason's new group, Charis, is available to help take your entire worship team to another level. Jason Lee has almost two decades of experience in ministry with experience as a studio instrumentalist, staff music arranger, worship leader, choir director and worship pastor over seeing every area of worship ministry. Jason is a part of a team of worship consultants at www.worshipconsulting.com and teaches periodically at conferences and workshops. One of the most beneficial ways you could have Charis minister to your church is by hosting a weekend worship or choir retreat. Rather than just having Charis do a concert at your church, have an “in-house” retreat where they will teach your entire ministry aspects of praise, worship and musical techniques that will greatly enhance your team. Jason can work with your vocal team, choir, and band (if applicable) during a number of workshops intentionally tailored to fit your specific ministry. If desired, as a part of the weekend, Charis could teach your worship ministry a couple of songs and then your team could join Charis in the worship concert the following day.
What to expect in a retreat/workshop:
I can’t tell you how many worship conferences I’ve been a part of that basically only told me “this is how you can do what we do”. That doesn’t work in the real church world with limited budgets, limited talent, facilities, etc… I’ve been a part of helping churches transition from where they are to where they want to be. Talent and skill are important, but a successful ministry has to be willing to deal with unity, pride, selfishness, perfectionism, jealousy, and all of the wonderful artistic temperaments that every creative person struggles with daily! So many churches only focus on style of worship instead of teaching their team the spiritual and scriptural emphasis on worship. If we would establish the foundation of worship and the reason we do what we do, the worship wars of style wouldn’t be such a concern. There is no cookie – cutter approach to anything in ministry. I believe you first have to determine the culture of your church and community to see what will work in your specific area.
Before the retreat takes place, I would spend time with the worship leader and/or senior pastor through phone calls and emails to establish a purposeful direction for the weekend. The last thing I would ever want to do is come in and destroy what you have established with your ministry! I will work specifically where you are, with what you have, help to determine where you want to go, and with your input – work to achieve a common goal to help your worship ministry achieve success.
These retreats and workshops can be tailored to fit whatever works best for you. It can be a two-day event or just a one evening workshop/rehearsal. There are a number of different workshops for you to pick which ones would be the most beneficial to your worship team.
Some of the workshops include:
“Praise and Worship – What’s the Difference?”
“Building a Solid Foundation for Worship”
“Spiritual Growth for the Worshipper”
“Growing Spiritually as a Worship Team”
“Scriptural Emphasis on Music and Worship”
“The Vocalist Workshop”
“The Instrumentalist Workshop”
“If We Don’t Come Together, We’re Dead”
If interested, I can send you an outline and a synopsis of each workshop to help you determine which ones would be the most beneficial for your ministry team. Please contact me at jason@mysugarhillchurch.com
